Timmins Police appeals to the public for help about dead man

Police say not enough information to rule out foul play in the death of Stephen Fuchs

The Timmins Police Service is appealing to the public for more information that may help determine whether Stephen Fuchs, formerly of Timmins, died as the result of foul play. A police news release issued Tuesday said that issue cannot be rules because information on Fuchs is so limited.

Following is the text of the latest news release from Timmins Police outlining the scope of the investigation"

"On July 30th 2011 Timmins Police began an investigation into the discovery of found human remains situated in Murphy Township, Timmins. As previously reported, it was apparent from the examination that the deceased person had a hip replacement.

"On August 23rd and 24th, 2011 a thorough ground search was conducted in the area where the bone had been found. No other human bones were located during the search.

"With the assistance of the local Coroner, the Regional Coroner, the Forensic Anthropologist, the Pathologist and the St-Cloud Police department in the State of Minnesota, Timmins Police have identified the human remains as being 58 year old Stephen Robert Fuchs, a United States citizen from the State of Minnesota.

"The investigation has revealed that Stephen Fuchs had been residing in the Timmins area for several months prior to his death. This is an on-going investigation and the investigative team has also been able to determine that:

-Between October of 2005 and June of 2006, Mr. Fuchs stayed at the Comfort Inn in Timmins.

-Between June of 2006 and August of 2006, Mr. Fuchs rented and was residing at an apartment on Pine Street North in Timmins.

-During the 2006 golf season, Mr. Fuchs attended the Hollinger Golf Course on multiple occasions.

-In July and August of 2006, Mr. Fuchs primary mode of transportation was a bicycle. He apparently enjoyed cycling and was an active person.

-During his time in Timmins, he attended the Shania Twain Center very frequently.

-Mr. Fuchs signed up for the 4th annual Shania Twain Convention in 2006 and attended the convention on August 10th and 11th of 2006. He missed the last day on August 12th, 2006.

"The cause and manner of his death are still under investigation. Although there is no information to indicate foul play, investigators cannot rule it out because of the limited amount of information at this stage of the investigation.

"Investigators are seeking public assistance and are releasing a photo of Stephen Fuchs (attached). This photo was apparently taken in December of 2005.
